Since 1981 – Where Legends Compete

BS CAPTURES The 33RD PFVCC CHAMPIONSHIP

The Winner’s Trophy Stays in Claremont, California

Effective date: 2013-12-29
LF will move the Winner’s Trophy from his bedroom down the hallway to BS’s room of tranquility for the next 12 months. BS finished in first place before the first whistle on Sunday. Going into Week 17, BS had a four game lead, and when all the picks were tabulated only three differences resulted with second place finisher SS, guaranteeing BS the 2013 PFVCC Championship. This is career championship number four for BS placing him third on the all-time championship list (SS-8 and DR-5) with his last PFVCC Championship in 2000. BS holds the distinction of being the first member to win back-to-back championships in 1983 and 1984.

A look at our champ. Born December 27, 1963, he began his successful PFVCC membership in 1983 and won his first championship that same year. BS is the second longest tenured member and holds second place with 4,496 career winning picks. It is fitting and deserving that BS wins this year’s championship during his birthday week. BS is the award winning chef and creator of Sweeney’s Weenies snack food. These prized little gems are featured at each PFVCC Awards Banquet Dinner. His book “My Weenies, My Life” continue to be a bestseller. It can be said that no member has contributed more to the success of the PFVCC than BS. BS has been awarded the Piglitzer Prize; the highest award a member can receive for contributions to the PFVCC, five times (1987, 1991, 1995, and 2001). His 2001 award was the famed “Crystal Piglitzer” for the development and implementation of the PFVCC Web Site we all use today.

BS took control of first place in Week 2 and never left the top spot for the rest of the year and no one got closer than two games. Before the final week BS’s biggest lead was four games in Weeks 8, 11 and 16 while SS tested BS’s metal in Weeks 12,13 and 14 when SS trailed by two games. With BS’s outstanding Week 17 performance he ultimately realized his biggest lead winning by five games over SS. SS finished in second place for the seventh time in his impressive PFVCC career. SS has finished in the money position 15 of 33 seasons. Here are some other members that spent some time in first place this season: BD(Week 1, 2), CM(1, 2), DP(2), MM(2), SR(2), KS(4,5) and DR(5).

Week 17 turned out to be the most productive for the membership averaging 11.9 wins per member. BS in the heat of the battle secured his championship with 14 winners. KS and JD also picked 14 winners. SS doing his best picked 13 winners but not enough to rattle BS. DR and JP also had 13 winners. DP, BD, MS, JR, SR and LF all had 12 winners. MM, TB and KB rounded out the double digit winners with 10 winners. An admirable performance by the rookie JR posting 150 wins for the year putting him 21st on the all-time winning list.

MS finished the year with the most Monday Night wins with 12. DP, MS and JP finished with the most Loner Picks with two each while JP was 2-0 with his Loner Pick attempts. LF became the first champion to go from first to worst as he never got on track. His acceptance speech last year must have exhausted him (it did us!) as he never got a second wind to compete.

Before the largest membership ever, sixteen members, BS will be honored at the 33rd Annual Awards Banquet Dinner to be held in his honor this summer at PFVCC Headquarters. As the Social Committee meets we will keep all of you informed of plans and festivities. Congratulations BS!
